迷宫，也称为 labyrinth，是一组通道（带有不可渗透的墙壁）。迷宫的目标是从一个给定的点开始，找到一条穿过通道到达第二个给定点的路径。
上面展示的是希腊皮洛斯出土的泥土会计板的背面（Wolfram 2002，p. 43）。传说它是克里特岛克诺索斯宫殿中牛头怪住所迷宫的平面图，由代达罗斯设计。也有人说它是特洛伊城的标志 - 或者可能是其部分城墙的平面图（Wolfram 2002，p. 873）。
上述图案（无论是方形还是圆形）以非常小的变化出现在世界各地的许多地方 - 从克里特岛的硬币，到庞贝城的涂鸦，到沙特尔大教堂的地板，到秘鲁的雕刻，到土著部落的标志。可能在三千年的时间里，它一直是迷宫最常用的单一设计（Wolfram 2003，p. 873）。
